About Timonium Wild Birds Unlimited
|
Many of us started feeding birds the same way. We bought a simple plastic feeder at a grocery store and some seed, often as an afterthought, and were amazed at how quickly and easily we attracted colorful birds. However, soon things became complicated. Squirrels found our feeder. Birds came to the feeder that we really did not want. Some birds that came to our feeder that we liked, stopped coming.
When when Wendy and I first started feeding birds thirty years ago there were very few high quality options available for the backyard birding enthusiast. It was hard to find knowledgeable people for advice. The stores that sold feeders rarely knew what they had. They had some good feeders, and some very poor ones - and no one could explain which was which. The seed blends available were junk, filled with grain filler, so we used sunflower exclusively, but often the stores did not know the difference between oil sunflower and striped sunflower, so which one we received was fairly random.
Today the situation is still much the same at grocery stores, discount stores, pet centers, hardware stores and garden centers. There is a cacophony of feeders, some good, but many not, and simply no one available to help the customer through the maze. Seed blends, often with the name "premium" are filled with inappropriate grain. And, they are often not inexpensive! The difference for the backyard bird enthusiast now is that there are specialty stores that have high quality birding products and knowledgeable staff.
Our store is intended to be a resource for people who want to feed and see birds in their backyard. Whether you are experienced or a beginner, we are available to advise you and guide you to products that will accomplish your objectives. Our bird houses and feeders are carefully selected for durability and effectiveness. Our bird seed is of the highest quality, fresh weekly, and blended with specific birds in mind. We also have a wide selection of other bird food available.
We would love to see you in our store, and often. However, for those who find it difficult to get to Timonium, Maryland, we now have an online store option where we carry many of our core products.

Spencer has been the Vice President of customer relations for over five years. If not sleeping, he feels a personal responsibility to greet every customer at the front door. He is not immune to bribery, or almost any other distraction, however. His favorite guests tend to rub his stomach and give him doggie treats.
|
A dropout of numerous obedience schools, Spencer prefers the practical experience of working in the store and building his 401K-9 to pursuing formal educational programs. He often works seven days a week, or as he says, he works like a dog.

Spencer wears another collar. He writes a column for this website called "Hey Spencer" - recently asked questions at the store. As a careful listener and ground feeder, he is a wealth of information, and what he doesn't know he unabashedly makes up. While one might question his accuracy, you will never question his confidence. As he puts it, he doesn't want to be "dog"matic, by which he means a slave to facts.

Marley has been Vice President for PCM for about two years. Her duties often keep her in the back of the store, though she is frequently in the front also. She can often be seen taking a "cat nap" in a chair behind the front counter that Spencer, apparently mistakenly, believes is his! Staff meetings can be tense.
